Purpose

To secure and maintain maximum independence and dignity in a home environment for older individuals capable of self-care with appropriate supportive services, including nutrition.  Remove individual and social barriers for older individuals and provide a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly.

Services

The Wayne County Senior Citizens Center offers special programming such as transportation, telephone reassurance, friendly visiting, counseling, adult education, escort, health screening, benefits counseling, and, long-term care ombudsman, as well as regularly scheduled recreational activities including arts and craft classes, exercise, cards, bingo, bus trips, movies, and billiards, at no cost to the participants.

  • Lunch is served daily at 11:00 a.m. 
  • Blood Pressure checks are provided monthly.
  • Additional recreational opportunities include the annual Senior Citizens Picnic sponsored by Lake Cumberland Area Development District.

There is no charge for services to the elderly, however a $2.00 donation is suggested for each service.

Eligibility

Any person, and their spouse, 60 years of age or older or a handicapped individual residing in an elderly housing complex is eligible for services at the Wayne County Senior Citizens Center
